This made me think that in the same way, we sometimes need to open the window of our hearts—letting light pour in so we can truly see life’s wonders, unclouded by the shadows of judgments hidden in the darkness.

]]>This piece was commissioned by PBS Television series Travels With Darley as a gift to George RR Martin. The Sky Railway features an adventure train born from the ashes of Santa Fe Southern. A creative team led by Santa Fe’s own George RR Martin which included artist Joerael Numina set out to be “…bold, wild, and exciting with something different…” Artfully painted rail cars and engines take passengers on a “howl and roar” of a ride between Santa Fe and Lamy, New Mexico.

]]>Pareidolia is the human ability to see shapes or make images out of randomness. Painted during a drought, this picture brings rain from the clouds to refresh the land and animals that inhabit it. I imagined wild horses running down a river after a long awaited rain storm. And when I looked up at the clouds I saw a baby angel. Do you see him?

]]>As part of my New Mexico adobe series of paintings, here I bring large cactus plants found throughout the Southwest into a scene of a common adobe house called casita. I find the pre-Columbian architecture of this dry climate blended with Colonial Spanish treatments such as the doors that open to courtyard entrances very unique and symbolic of the history where two cultures clashed and now do their best to co-exist.

]]>As part of my Santa Fe Doors collection, Blue Door reflects the history of early colonial Spanish influence on the Native American inspired adobe architecture found throughout Santa Fe. ]]>Just 30 minutes from Santa Fe, the first Pecos pueblo was built around AD 1100 and grew over the next 350 years to more than 2,000 people in its five-storied complex. First visited by Spanish explorers in 1540, a mission church was built in 1619 – “Mission of Our Lady of the Angels of Porciuncula.” (Porciuncula is a little chapel in Italy built in the 300s AD where the Franciscan movement began.) The church was destroyed during the Pueblo Revolt in 1680 and after the reconquest in 1693, a smaller church was built on the original foundation which stands as ruins today.
